“Virata Parvam” – A Love Story Amidst Revolution in Telangana

Venu Udugula, the director behind the acclaimed Needi Naadi Oke Katha, returns with Virata Parvam, a love story set against the backdrop of a revolution in 90s Telangana. The film follows Vennela, a naive girl who dreams of love even as tensions escalate between the naxalites and policemen in a united Andhra Pradesh.

Vennela, raised to be independent and educated, becomes enchanted by the poetry of Ravanna (Rana Daggubati), a maoist leader. Driven by a pure and unconditional love, she embarks on a journey to meet him. Director Venu Udugula explores the irrationality of love, portraying Vennela’s naive determination in stark contrast to Ravanna’s practicality and paranoia.

Sai Pallavi delivers a spectacular performance as Vennela, drawing viewers in with her captivating portrayal of the character. Rana Daggubati, playing the stoic and bruised Ravanna, lets his eyes do the talking. The rest of the cast, including Nandita Das, Zareena Wahab, Priyamani, Naveen Chandra, Rahul Ramakrishna, and Sai Chand, bring life to their characters, with Sai Chand playing the perfect father figure.

Although there are moments in the film that drag, Venu Udugula’s writing and direction are strong, with poetic dialogues and haunting cinematography that immerses viewers in Ravanna’s world. Suresh Bobbili’s OST and background score add to the film’s atmosphere, lingering with viewers long after the film is over.

While Virata Parvam may not align with everyone’s politics, it is a film that deserves appreciation for its good cinema. It may not be conventionally entertaining, but it is a film that stays with you.
