Vishwak Sen, the director, screenplay writer, and lead actor of Das Ka Dhamki, attempts to create a “eat the rich” genre film. However, the film’s execution tests the audience’s patience despite having all the makings of a satisfying story.
The story revolves around Krishna Das (played by Vishwak Sen), an orphan and waiter at a star hotel, who becomes fed up with the disrespect from rich customers. After a particularly frustrating incident with a customer and unsympathetic manager Deepthi (played by Akshara Gowda), he decides to spend big bucks like a customer with his friends for a day.
What starts as a day of indulgence turns into a lie when he meets a fashion student named Keerthi (played by Nivetha Pethuraj) who mistakes him for the CEO of a pharmaceutical company. The film takes a predictable turn in the first half, with commercial comedy tropes, including duets in foreign locations and lots of laughter.
The second half takes a turn with a series of events, but it meanders until it reaches the conclusion, with writers attempting to give us “twists” that go too far.
The biggest drawback of the film is its core point, the pharmaceutical drug industry. While it is crucial to the story, it fails to engage the audience. Vishwak Sen’s performance is the saving grace of the film, as he manages to make his dual role work. Nivetha Pethuraj delivers a dependable performance and looks gorgeous while doing so.
Overall, Das Ka Dhamki has potential, but it falls short due to inconsistent pacing and excessive use of cuss words. The film sets up a conflict for a sequel, leaving room for improvement.
