Movie Review: “HIT” – A Well-executed Crime Drama with Room for Improvement.

The director of HIT, Dr. Sailesh Kolanu, has plans to turn the movie into a franchise, which is evident from the way the characters are introduced. Crime dramas are a difficult genre to execute, but the director does an impressive job with minimal flaws. The viewer is quickly drawn into the suffocating and painful world of the protagonist, Vikram.

The plot centers around a missing girl on Outer Ring Road, whose last known interaction was with a cop, Murli Sharma. Vikram, another cop who is on leave due to his emotional trauma, becomes involved in the case after receiving a distressing call. Vikram works for the HIT department, despite his girlfriend Neha’s objections, and struggles with panic attacks, paranoia, and a fear of firearms due to his past trauma. The film follows Vikram’s investigation into the missing girl’s case and how it connects to the call he received.

The director provides enough information about Vikram’s trauma to engage the viewer and create empathy. Vikram’s love for Neha and his emotional turmoil are shown through fragmented memories, a bold narrative choice that may not appeal to all viewers. The film’s climax is unpredictable, but it is rushed through, which is a drawback.

The movie’s environment is skillfully crafted by director Sailesh, Vivek Sagar, S Mani Kandan, and Garry BH. The music, cinematography, and editing are true to the genre, conveying the pain, suffocation, and desperation through sound and visuals. The attention to detail is impressive, and some scenes are shot subtly, without being too explicit. The film also subtly challenges stereotypes.

Vishwak Sen’s performance is uneven, with his dialogue delivery appearing off in scenes with Ruhani but excellent in sarcastic and funny scenes. Ruhani Sharma’s acting is average, while Hari Teja’s is exceptional. Murli Sharma performs well with his limited screen time.

HIT may not be a suspenseful film, but it is engaging enough to hold the viewer’s interest. With a more cohesive narrative, better direction, and acting, it could have been outstanding. However, the movie works, and the cliffhanger ending sets up a promising sequel.
